Top Five Free Widgets For Websites

If you have not realized it yet, there is a Web 2.0 widget revolution going on. Advertisers are competing for your web space in creative ways with nice fancy widgets. You can add these free widgets to your website at Myspace, blogger, typepad or any website without hardly any HTML skills. The benefit to you is that it spices up your web page with functionality that would otherwise be difficult.

Below are my top five in no particular order:

1. Mashups from Yourminis: With this you can create custom widgets with a mix of RSS feeds, video feeds, weather, flash, Flickr images and much more. Below is an example of an RSS feed of my home page that I can place at another site.

Adding any of the custom widgets is a breeze with Yourminis. If you have access to the HTML code, then you can insert this yourself or you can have Yourminis add the widget to your site.

2 Jaxtr: A really cool concept, this is a free VOIP telephone service. You can use this to post to any webpage you have and you don't have to reveal your contact number. You can customize the colors, size and look and feel for your site. Your can set your friends call to ring you directly and stranger's calls directed to a voice mail. Wish your cell phone could do that (may be one of the expensive one)? This one is free. You can get started with a jaxtr account and call a person in another continent using a local number in your region.

3. Livetraffic: This one may surprise you! You can see live traffic to this page here. You can create your custom Live traffic feed to your blog, or add a small piece of code to a block or to a page from here.

4. Ebay: This one is sure to impress you and a brilliant idea from ebay, still in beta. You can display an ebay item you have for sale or all of the items from your store or search for items at ebay, all the comfort of your Myspace or Wordpress blog. Below is an example of "GPS" items for sale at ebay. Notice how you can select an item and many relevant details - seller information, time remaining on the auction, number of views, highest bidder or search for items you are interested in. You can get this at togo.ebay.com

5. Polldaddy: Now tell me which of these do you like the most? Do you have a favorite widget that you would like to share with our readers? Let me know through this poll or drop a comment. To create this gadget visit polldaddy
