Drupal Content

The fastest way to understand content creation in Drupal is by creating your own web page and a blog. In the next chapter we will go through various content types and when to use a particular content type. Out of the box you will find the following content types to choose from:

Blog entry
Image
Page
Poll
Product
Story
Webform

If that is not enough you can create your own content types.

To create your first content go to Create Content » Page. For most people the predefined page, blog and image content types are the ones you are often going to be using for a business presence site.

When creating your first content you may want to post it to the home page to get an idea of how your content appears when published. When you have multiple content items on your site, the most recent content is shown closer to the top and older items are posted towards the bottom, unless the sticky property is enabled. You can change the content post settings to control the order of content on a page. By selecting the sticky property a particular content can be promoted to the top of a list.

When creating content that includes scripts, YouTube code or any advanced HTML tags, select the php input format type or from the input format section of your content creation. For each content you create you can define unique title, meta keywords, file name and where it is published. In the chapter on menu you will learn how to content menus to your created content.

If you find yourself constantly having to modify the default parameters of a content type, you can edit many of the defaults from Administer » Content Management » Content Types.

On pages the standard display format for a content item is to show a teaser length of text and then click on read more that takes the reader to the full text. You can alter this behavior by modifying the teaser length for your site from Administer » Content Management » Post Settings or by adding  to the code section of your contents to control the where the content breaks.
